What is the NISBC?

The mission of the Northeast Indiana Sustainable Business Council (NISBC) is to advance sustainability practices by the business sector through education and certification in collaboration with nonprofit, business, government and education organizations. Formed by a group of concerned community partners who want to promote green business practices throughout Northeast Indiana, the NISBC was created as an expansion of the city of Fort Wayne’s award-winning Green City Business Program.

The NISBC is a Public-Private-Nonprofit effort that collaborates with local government, utilities and regional like-mission organizations, thereby providing programs tailored to match the interests of regional participants. Our programs can be aligned with Regional Economic Development efforts and are compatible with advanced initiatives.

Our founders include the City of Fort Wayne, Ft. Wayne Metals, Hagerman Construction, A. Hattersley & Sons, Indiana Tech, Lincoln Financial, Parkview Hospital, Rothberg, Logan & Warsco,Transformations Furniture and the YMCA of Greater Ft. Wayne.

The NISBC subscribes to the Triple P theory of sustainability: Profit, People, and Planet. Through our certification programs, businesses can increase Profits through lean manufacturing, improved public image, reduced waste stream costs, more creative employees and compliance with customer “green” requirements.

People in your community and your employees benefit from sustainability practices by being proud of their part in natural resources stewardship, both locally and globally. Our children and grandchildren – inheritors of the Planet – are the ultimate benefactors as our generation practices stewardship. Through smarter environmental management the present generation can satisfy its needs without compromising the next generation’s ability to do the same. including air, water, and land pollution prevention.
